The end, and the beginning.

There’s something ironic about writing the first blog post of the website at the end of the year. 2024 is about to come to a close and I feel like things are just beginning. Let’s start off with what I want to achieve with this blog.

My content is always about you, the viewer. Or I guess in this case…the reader. If you’re reading this you’re probably here from my YouTube channel. I appreciate you. With this blog, I want to provide written content to help you with your filmmaking and content creation journey. That may be some summaries from videos on my channel, providing a shorter form of content that perhaps you’re not in the mood to watch, so you’d rather read. Bear with me as I get better at writing. Ha.

For this first post, however, let’s start with something easy. What’s to come in 2025?

The obvious answer you’re expecting is growth. To hit 100,000 subscribers. You know funnily enough my goal for 2024 was to hit 10,000 subscribers. I’m a quarter of the way there now, and, although I didn’t hit the 10K target I’m not sad. I feel quite proud. I’m 25% of the way to a target I knew was big and takes people years to do. If I’m being honest with myself, my channel is in its infancy as I’ve only really been figuring out what my content should be like in the past 2 years or so. It’s been 2 years since I’ve taken this channel seriously and seen it as a job. And because I did, it now is. Kinda. Becoming monetised was one of the biggest milestones for me. Not because I’m now rolling in that YT monayyy - it’s quite the opposite lol. No. The reason it meant so much to me is because it was that first hurdle towards becoming a serious channel. A channel in the filmmaking space that could a difference.

When I got into filmmaking YouTube I was watching Peter McKinnon, Matti H. (not even gonna attempt to spell his last name without googling it) and similar channels. What I loved most about their content ON TOP of it being extremely helpful was how much fun they were having. Peter could be testing a new 50mm lens Canon gave him whilst he was quad biking through some forest in Canada. Or having some drone fun with Matti. And of course, there were endless coffee-making b-roll sequences among other b-roll sequences to enjoy. There was fun, information, and something pretty to look at. I want to bring that back. Or at least be a source of that as much as possible for my audience.

So what are my goals for 2025?
Continue posting consistently.
Create content that people find both useful and enjoyable.
Create filmmaking assets for this website that will help people whilst still being affordable.
Grow the MCKC fam. Is that what I should call the community? MCfam? I dunno. You tell me in a video sometime.

The next year will be a great one, for you and me.
